Not all blackberries have thorns! Many new varieties with large, juicy berries are well suited for the home garden or market garden.
Triple Crown is a thornless blackberry variety known for its flavour, high yields and vigour, hence "Triple" Crown. The fruit are large, juicy and very sweet with a balanced hint of tart. Triple Crown is considered one of the best tasting thornless blackberries and is good for fresh eating, freezing, desserts and preserves.
This cultivar has a semi-erect growth habit and can be grown as a shrub without support. Triple Crown blackberry bushes grow 6 feet tall by 2-3 feet wide.
Berries form on last year's canes (floricanes). Thornless canes make tending and picking pain-free, and cultivated varieties like Triple Crown are easy to contain, unlike the invasive Himalayan blackberry.
