About Us

West Coast Plants is located in Errington, B.C., on beautiful Vancouver Island, off the west coast of Canada. The 2.5-acre property includes an Edible Perennial Plant Nursery and demonstration food garden, with over 30 raised garden beds, multiple in-ground beds, greenhouses and a large rainwater harvesting system.

There are over 60 species of edible perennial fruits and vegetables planted on the property, including mulberries, persimmons, pawpaws, figs, pepper trees, hardy kiwis, passionfruit, tayberries, goumi berries, skirret, groundnut and climbing spinach, to name a few!

When Mariah and Tim Wilde purchased the property in 2014, it had a house and small grass yard. In the years that followed, they added deer fencing, built the nursery and food garden and planted all the edible plants now growing on the property.

In 2022, a Farm Stand was added to share the garden's ever-growing bounty with the local community. In addition to produce, the farm stand sold young plants, which were popular and would often sell out.

With a desire to focus on selling plants, Mariah Wilde officially started West Coast Plants in 2023. She wanted to share what she'd learned during her 25+ years of experience growing food and 1000's of hours researching gardening and plant varieties. She also wanted to provide the local gardening community with unique edible perennials that were hard to find elsewhere. You can read more about Mariah's background here.
