Variety and Size

Bred at the University of Saskatchewan, 'TreasuRed' columnar apple trees combine cold hardiness with flavour and productivity, on a compact tree. Naturally growing in the shape of a column (8-12 feet tall but only 3-4 feet wide), 'TreasuRed' produces bright, cherry red apples reminiscent of McIntosh in aroma, but with flesh that's firmer, crisper, juicer and less prone to bruising. The fruit are excellent for fresh eating, baking and preserves.

Columnar apple trees are bred for compact, upright growth, making them ideal for small spaces, urban gardens, containers, hedges, or orchards. Columnar apples can be planted individually, or in a row with spacing as close as 3-4 feet, though 4-6 feet is better. On a yield per square foot basis, columnar apple trees are incredibly productive. Despite their small footprint, they yield full-sized, flavourful apples on trees that are easy to care for. In fact, columnar apples require almost no pruning, naturally forming short, upright branches.

'TreasuRed' will require cross-pollination with another variety of apple or crabapple that blooms mid-season.
