Blackcurrant plants are deciduous shrubs known for their extremely flavourful and nutritious fruit. Clusters of small, bell-shaped flowers in early spring are followed by glossy, dark purple to black fruit in July. The fruit are known for their unique, sweet-tart flavour, which is prized in culinary uses such as jams, jellies, syrups, desserts, and beverages.
The varieties we offer produce fruit that is larger and sweeter that old varieties, and the fruit ripen all at the same time for easy harvest with a berry scoop. Tiben blackcurrants can produce 8-11 pounds of excellent quality fruit per shrub.
Blackcurrants are a different species from red and white currants. Blackcurrants generally form larger bushes, larger fruit and have an overall higher yield. 'Tiben' grows as a shrub that can reach 5' high.
