The Hosui Asian Pear is one of Japan's most celebrated pear cultivars. Bred in 1972, it is known for its exceptional flavour and beautiful bronze-russeted skin. Hosui produces large, round fruits that stand out both in the orchard and on the table.
Hosui pears are crisp, juicy, rich and very sweet. Many growers and consumers consider Hosui to be among the very best-tasting Asian pears, and we very much agree.
The fruits are excellent eaten fresh, sliced into salads, or paired with cheese. They can also be used in desserts, juiced, or baked. Hosui pears keep for 1-2 months under refrigeration, which is not as long as some other Asian pears, but they are prized for their eating quality.
Asian pears are attractive trees with dark green, shiny leaves and a growth habit that is more open than tight, upright European pears. Asian pears ripen on the tree and are ready to harvest in late summer to early fall.
