Maypop (Passiflora incarnata) is the most cold-hardy species of passionflower, producing edible passionfruits on herbaceous perennial vines that regrow from their roots each spring. Cold-hardy to -23ºC (-9ºF), Passiflora incarnata can be a true perennial in many Canadian gardens.
Maypops, also called hardy passionflower or hardy passionfruit vines, are known for their stunning lavender blooms and unique, aromatic fruit. These seedlings establish quickly and will reward you with fast-growing vines, intricate flowers, and sweetly fragrant fruit once mature.
Maypop is excellent for trellises, arbors, fences, and edible landscapes, growing 10-25 feet long. Maypops can be grown in-ground or in 10 to 20 gallon containers.
Each plant develops its own character from seed, so you may enjoy subtle variation in flower and fruit traits — part of what makes growing maypop seedlings interesting and rewarding.
Maypop seedlings benefit from cross-pollination with another Maypop (cold-hardy passionflower) variety or seedling. We offer both seed-grown Maypops and the cultivar 'Fata Confetto.'
