‘Frost’ is an excellent peach tree cultivar for gardeners in the Pacific Northwest and other cool, wet regions where leaf curl impacts many varieties.
Developed by Washington State University, ‘Frost’ was specifically bred for its strong resistance to leaf curl, a fungal disease that can cause severe leaf loss, weakened trees, and poor crops. While no peach is entirely immune, ‘Frost’ reliably produces healthy foliage and good crops without the need for repeated chemical sprays—making it one of the best low-maintenance choices for organic and home growers.
Fruit are medium-to-large, yellow-fleshed, freestone and have excellent flavour, with medium to high sweetness. 'Frost' peaches are great for fresh eating, baking, preserves and freezing.
'Frost' peach trees are self-fertile (you only need one to produce fruit) and on semi-dwarf rootstock they will grow 12-15 feet tall, though they can be kept shorter with annual pruning.
If you want to grow a peach tree without providing it shelter from rain, ‘Frost’ is widely recognized as the most dependable variety—combining high quality fruit with disease resistance.
