Evergreen huckleberry is a small, dense shrub native to the Pacific Northwest, including B.C. It thrives in coastal forests and shaded areas but can also tolerate sun.

Evergreen huckleberry is known for its glossy, dark green leaves and choice edible black berries, which are a favourite of wildlife and can be used in jams and pies.

The flavour of the fruit is similar to a cross between red huckleberry and blueberry - both of which it is related to.

This plant is often valued in landscaping for its dark green, evergreen foliage and attractive pink flowers, which provide a food source for spring pollinators.

The berries are choice and have been consumed by coastal First Nations for thousands of years. They were eaten fresh, mashed and dried into cakes for winter use, or mixed with other berries such as salal.
