'Hansa' Rugosa Rose

‘Hansa’ is a hardy rugosa rose prized for its intensely fragrant, classic rose-scented flowers and large, edible red-orange hips. Rugosa roses produce some of the largest rose hips, making them ideal for fall harvesting. The hips are particularly rich in vitamin C and also contain carotenoids, vitamin E and other antioxidant compounds; they can be used fresh or dried for tea, syrups, jams, jellies and sauces. The fragrant petals are excellent for rose water and tinctures. Flowers attract bees, while the dense, prickly branches provide valuable shelter and habitat for songbirds.
