One of the three main varieties of wild strawberry in B.C., the Coastal Strawberry, or Beach Strawberry, is a low-growing, evergreen, perennial, ground cover with dark green, shiny leaves and round, red, edible berries.

Adapted to the Pacific coast regions of North and South American, Coastal Strawberries are salt and drought tolerant, thrive in sandy/loam soils and provide excellent erosion control.

Coastal Strawberries spread easily by runners, creating a dense, edible ground cover. Runners can be easily controlled and transplanted. Coastal Strawberry plants can take light foot traffic, so can be considered as a lawn alternative.
