'Cardinal' persimmon is one of the earliest-ripening non-astringent Asian persimmons, producing medium to large attractive orange fruit with sweet, rich flavour. Unlike astringent persimmons, the fruit can be eaten while still firm and crisp, making it easy to enjoy fresh.
Its early ripening time makes Cardinal especially well suited to cooler climates where later persimmon varieties may struggle to mature. Trees are productive, self-fertile, and develop into attractive small landscape trees with glossy foliage and excellent fall colour.
Our female 'Cardinal' persimmon trees are grafted and will produce fruit without a male Asian persimmon present for cross pollination. And, without a male nearby, fruit will be seedless, which is desirable.
