Munstead Lavender is a compact, fragrant herb prized for its aromatic, vibrant violet-blue flowers and silvery-green foliage. Growing to about 12-18 inches tall and wide, this English lavender variety forms a dense, mounding habit. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, requiring minimal water once established. Blooming in early to mid-summer, its highly aromatic flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators, making it an excellent companion plant in any food garden. Munstead Lavender is also more cold-hardy than other lavenders, making it a great choice for cooler climates.
Munstead Lavender's edible flowers and leaves add a floral, slightly citrusy note to teas, baked goods, and infused syrups, while also serving as a natural pest repellent. The plant’s essential oils have long been valued for their calming and medicinal properties, often used in aromatherapy and homemade skincare products.
Lavender prefers lean, dry soil, and thrives alongside Mediterranean herbs like rosemary, thyme, and sage, helping to create a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant herb garden. Whether for culinary use, pollinator support, or its classic fragrance, Munstead Lavender has a lot to offer any herb or food garden.
