'Italian Prune' Plum Trees
'Italian Prune' Plum Trees
Italian Prune plum trees produce reliable, heavy yields of large, oval, dark purple plums with golden yellow flesh. The freestone plums are firm, with low water content and high sugar content, making them ideal for drying, canning and baking. When cooked, the flesh turns bright red-pink and develops a creamy texture. These flavourful, very sweet plums are equally good enjoyed fresh, which explains the variety's long-lasting popularity, with many considering it a staple variety for any garden or orchard.
These long-lived trees, which are resistant to bacterial spot, are on semi-dwarf rootstock and will reach 12' tall, though they can be kept smaller with pruning. Prune plums trees in the summer to allow cuts to heal quickly in warm, dry weather.
