Blackcurrant plants are deciduous shrubs known for their extremely flavourful and nutritious berries. Clusters of small, bell-shaped flowers in early spring are followed by glossy, dark purple to black fruit in July. Blackcurrants are known for their unique, tart flavour, which is prized in culinary uses such as jams, jellies, syrups, desserts, and beverages.
The varieties offered here produce fruit that is larger and sweeter that old varieties, and the fruit ripen all at once for easy harvesting with a berry scoop.
Blackcurrants are a different species from red and white currants. Blackcurrants generally form larger bushes, larger fruit and have an overall higher yield.
