Asian Pear Trees
Asian pears are a species of pear native to East Asia. They are distinct from the more common European pears and are often appreciated for their crisp texture, juicy flesh, notable sweetness and long shelf-life.
Asian pears can be enjoyed fresh, cooked, preserved and juiced.
Varieties:
- Hosui: Brown, russeted skin. Sweet, rich, and slightly tart.
- Shinseiki: Smooth, yellow skin. Very crisp, sweet, and refreshing.
- Chojuro: Golden-brown, russeted skin. Sweet with a butterscotch flavour.
- 20th Century (Nijisseiki): Yellow-green skin. Crisp, sweet, and mildly tart.
- Shinko: Brown-amber skin. Sweet, nutty flavour. Juicy. Very disease resistant.

Noteworthy: Generally much more flavourful and sweeter than grocery store varieties. Possibly better than any apple or pear you've tried!
