Arbequina olive is a popular and highly regarded cultivar from Spain. They have small-sized, high-quality fruit, with a delicate flavour and high oil content. Almost 80% of the olive trees planted in California are Arbequina olives.

This variety has a compact growth habit, suitable for smaller spaces or large containers. Olives are evergreen and will keep their leaves through the winter.

Arbequina olives are only hardy to Zone 8, so may need special attention in our region. Locate your trees where they will be protected from winter winds and cold. If grown in pots, it's easy to move them to a protected location during winter. Plan to possibly use Christmas lights to keep the trees warm if they are still ripening fruit into winter.
